Year 2004 Tournament Schedule

Chuck Corica Tournament Results -3/28/2004

Dear SYGC Members,

It was so excited to see 28 club members playing in our first tournament of the year on last Sunday. The weather was very beautiful. I guess every player must enjoy the game and had great time. We added team match similar to F-Cup this time. Some of our players have been playing this kind of match before and very familiar with the system. But it might be very new to some others. Anyway, besides of getting more prizes, I hope we all have a lot of fun in this team match.

Jerry Tso was the champion in this tournament. He shot an impressive 82 (net -4) during the round and won the Low Gross. In Diamond Tier, Steve Hwang shot 87 (net -3), Eric Ouyang shot 87 (net -2) and Wen Lee shot 86 (net +1) to win net low #1, #2 and #3. In Gold Tier, Carol Lin shot 95 (net -2), Ivan Ho shot 90 (-1) and Brian Chang shot 91 (-1) to win net low #1, #2 and #3. Brian Chang and Carol Lin also hit longest drive in men's & women's group. Cangsang Zhao, Tao Chou, Hao-Ping Wen and Eric Ouyang won nearest pin. Congratulation to all of the winners!

Poppy Ridge Tournament Results -4/25/2004

Dear SYGC golfers,

Althought it was a bit hot during this time of the
year in Poppy Ridge, all 32 dedicated players showed
up tackling the challenging Poppy Ridge. Everyone
tried hard to tame the course yet enjoyed playing with
members.

Merlot is said to be a tougher course with narrower
fairway and valley slopes, our players showed some
good strength in serious golfing.

Danny Tsen, our swing master, played like a pro with
gross 78. club president Ivan told us how he committed
to our tournament, by winning consecutive Net#2(-3).
George Cheng arrived late without any warm-up but
winning Net#1(-8). Yu Chang and Shirley, Ivan and Ivy,
both couples are winning Nets from different teams, so
are we seeing a couple factor here(last tournament was
Carol and Brian)?

Hope everyone enjoyed single match, some only for fun
like Frank and I, we use beer to play mental game
that's all, unlike Danny(78) and Conrad(84) match,
Conrad's Net#3(-1) still got defeated by 78. JC Lee's
almost net#3(same -2 as Ivy, Ivy played better 2nd 9),
still left it short by Goerge's career -8(based on Yu
Chang's instant calculation, the odds is 1 of a
million)

All par 3's closest to the pin are close enough, you
"need" to play hole-in-one to win. Brian's almost
winning long-drive was stolen by 1/18 good drive from
me. :).
We've heard some rare eagles, good birdies from
members, and seeing new face joining. It was fun!
Hope you all enjoyed the game, your match and the
club.

See you next time!

San Juan Oaks F-Cup Results -5/15/2004

Dear SYGC Golfers,

Just want to give you an more detailed update on
Friendship Cup results this year. As Yu announced,
we won the cup by a razor thin margin: 12.5 vs. 11.5.
We are 0.5 point over what was needed to get back
the cup (since MVGC won the cup last year, a tie will
give them the advantage to retain the cup!)

I was very lucky to have a team of very dedicated
members. We have totally 4 official practice rounds
for the past 3 weeks. Unofficial practices by
individual players are not tallied. For the past 3
weeks, you can find our team members in both San Jose
Muni and Santa Clara almost every night. Some of
them continued to practice hard until the last days
before competition, obviously against captain's
instruction on our "Daily Update" emails. We have
very nice uniforms this year, and some of the
members will show off in the upcoming tournaments
for sure (count on it!). The strategic lunch
was held yesterday, and we went over hole-by-hole,
and match-by-match, and overall strategic play and
course management. Thanks to Ivy who picked up the
tab again.

This year, we have 3 teams who brought in 3 team
points without giving up any: 1. Ivan Ho/ Long Wang;
2. Lucas Tsai/ Eric Ouyang; 3. Danny Tsen and Roger
Su. We have Cangsang Zhao/ Conrad Chen brought in
1.5 points, and Tony Su and Wen Lee brought in
another 2 points to make it 12.5 points.

Ivan was on business trip the whole week last week,
and was even questionable to play the day before.
Calling MVGC captain last night at 11PM and told
him Ivan WILL play is the best decision I made for
the whole captainship. Long's performance peaked
at the right time: his opponent shot 86, but tough
luck for him since Long shot 85!

Eric and I played very well during our practice
rounds, and Eric's magical fairway bunker shot
at the first hole miraculously stopped their charge,
and after that our team never trailed behind.

Danny and Roger are very good match, and Roger finally
shed his reputation as the "best SYGC player to never
won a F-Cup match". Their match with Peter and Daniel,
two best players at MVGC, was a total surprise to a
lot of people that the result is such a landslide.

Cangsang played very well over Willy. Even though
the team match was 2 down with 2 holes to play,
Cangsang and Conrad somehow managed to beat their
opponents to even the team match to bring in the
deciding 0.5 points. When I learned about this, I
can only thank God, and their "never give up"
attitude.

Wen and Tony again both brought in 1 point each, and
that's good enough for us. We are over the half
way point, and we won the cup back!!!

This year, the competition is getting even more
intense and competitive than last year, and that will
only make F-Cup a well-anticipated event, and a
tradition for the two clubs with so many good friends
to play together, and compete together. I believe
next year MVGC will gear up and try even harder to
get the cup that we made for the next 3 competition
period. I hope all the best and serious golfers
of the club can all join for next year to defend our
cup!

Thank you all for your support for my captainship
this year. Thank you Yu Chang for being such a good
advisor. Thank you President Ivan for your strong
support. And thank you all for those who pray at home
today. The captainship is intense, and is a probably
the best weight loss program as well.

Regards,

Lucas

Dear SYGC member

It was a windy day but everyone has played their best in Coyote Creek.
However, the pace was really slow and that blocked people behind us.

Hope to see you in the next tournament in July 25.
For those people who played in June Tournament, you will get $10 credit
in SYGC. Remember to mention it next time when you send check to Lucern.

The Bridges Tournament Results -8/1/2004

Dear SYGC member,

First of all, thanks to Tony for being the host.
There was a lot of coourdination work with the late
signup players and the golf course, the payment for
the floating tournament and such.

------------------------------------------------------

2 players signup late did not pay yet.

You know who you are, please send me an email and
arrange a payment soon.

------------------------------------------------------

Challenge and fun golf course.

The afternoon was great for golf and not windy at all.
The scores are still prettyy high excpet for a
few exceptions which I will mention later.
Bridges is a very tough course, good course knowledge
will be needed to play well there. I hope most if not
everyone felt gold tee was challenge and fun.

We also had a few friends from MVGC, Henry Ho come for
the first time, Hungshin played with us at Rio Vista.
I hope them had a great time as we did too.

------------------------------------------------------

READY GOLF

The ladies group should be praised for observing
ready golf practices. Even the golf course marshalls
told them they played fast. My group played real fast
but we were 1 hole behind them until 17th hole.
These ladies averaged 112 shots and finished within
4.5 hours. There is something others can learn from.

Judging from when the score cards got back to me,
2 groups were still playing slower than average.
Let us continue to improve.

------------------------------------------------------

Best Gross and overall performance:

Wen's friend, Yenyu, has the best score for both net
and stableford points. Gross 87, net 67, +4 points.
However, since he is not a member and has no official
NCGA index, he is not eligible for prizes.
However, we will give him a nice prize,
credit for 2004 membership fee. He is now a member
for the rest of the year.

Cangsang shot 80, net 68, -1 point.
He gets a nice launch pad for his best gross score.
I am amazed with his consistency from the scorecard.
He will be a superstar for our next f-cup team.

------------------------------------------------------

STABLEFORD RESULT

There are a few mistakes on the final points scored
announced at the end of the game. My apologies.
I have checked the score card and corrected them.
Since there is some tied scores, the prizer is
changed to $30 for 1st, $25 for 2nd, $20 for 4th and
$10 for 5th place winners. Lucern will keep track of
club credits, remember to claim it when you signup
for the next tournament.

It was so excited to see 26 club members plus 2 guests playing in Poppy Hills

very comfortable. Besides regular stroke play, we have single match in each

Cinnabar Hills Tournament Results -9/24/2004

From: Tony S <tonywww@sbcglobal.net>

Subject: [SYGC] September 19th Cinnabar Hills tournament result

Dear members

26 players (including 5 Tsing Hua players led by Steve
Hsia) braved a little shower and a bit of gutsy wind
tackling Cinnabar Hills on Sep 19th. It was a great
practice for anyone who wants to play in Scotland.

Because of the smaller field and multiple winners,
the prizes are shared into smaller portion -

The honor of Gross #1 goes to Conrad with a 83.

3 way tie for net#1 (69)
George Cheng,
Tony Su and
Long Wang

Prize for each club credit $20 and 40 Friendship
Cup points

Also three way tie for net#2 (71)
Conrad Chen,
Frank Hsu (Cinnabar tee) and
Wen Lee (Cinnabar tee)

In addition to the gross prize, Conrad will earn 20
Friendship Cup points.
Frank and Wen each has earned club credit $10 and 20
Friendship Cup points

One note worthy shot in my group was Gangsang's drive

very solid drive over a tree. Please share any note
worthy shots in your foursome with everyone.

Special thanks to Yu for arranging a new tournament

outing over the weekend.

Looking forward to see everyone at the Eagle Ridge

Eagle Ridge Annual InterVideo Cup Tournament Results -10/27/2004

SYGC 2004 InterVideo Cup Annual Tournament result

To be honest with you all, the weather had been a big
concern for me and I had been checking weather.com
everyday 1 week before the tournament.
Fortunately, there was just a little rain that made
the putting a little more challenge. Eagle ridge looked
so beautiful with the "Cloud Sea" (Yun2 Hai3), I felt
I was back to Yellow Mountain in China.

The course condition was superb, green was hard to read
especially with the rain slowing the putt down.
The scores reflected the tough condition even through
we played from the simpler tee. (Only 4 macho men played
from white tee, COnrad, Roger, Wen and Danny.)
But everyone had a great time.

Ivan Ho, our president who had dominated the last few
tournaments, took home the biggest 2 trophies.
He beat Jennifer at match to win the match champion and
his 84 also won the gross champion too. Just for comparison:
We have 15 player with lower index but the closest one
to Ivan was 4 shots apart. The lowest index player will
have to shoot 72 (even par) to match Ivan's performance!

Jennifer played consistently well and took almost every
possible prize home (see below). However, her good
performance was no match to Ivan's very hot play.
She had to settle for second place match and Net#2.
In addition to these, she also took home the Ladies
Match Champion trophy and 2 near pin prizes.

Roger and Conrad went out half an hour before the first
group and had to wait for a longggggg time for the rest
to come back. Roger could have started with 3 birdies
if he did not missed a 5 feet putt on the second hole.
Conrad shot a very respectable 88 from white tee and
drooled over the Gross Champion trophy until Ivan came
back with an unbelieveable 84. Conrad had to settle for
first flight Net Champion. There is always next year. ;-)

Frank played one of his best round. I can never forget
4 years ago when I won gross with 79 at Santa Clara
but did not win 1 single skin against him and Thomas.
He was even better this time to win second flight Net#1.
Hao-ping had broke 100 only a few times in his career.
Fortunately, his 98 on a very tough course and a very
tough day was very timely for him to tie with Frank for
him to bring home the Net#2 trophy home.

Lucas bought a new driver and a new set of irons only a
couple weeks ago. His investment paid off by winning
the long drive with a 305 yard shot. How do I know it is
305 yard? Because he beat my drive by a fraction.
I must point out the hole was dryer when he played it. ;-)

Match Champion Ivan Ho (6 landslide wins)
Match second place Jennifer Kao (and Ladies Champion too)
Match third place Wen Lee (Mr. 10 and 8)
Match third place Hao-ping Wen (good timing to break 100)

Gross Champion Ivan Ho 84 (15 players w/ lower index)

First flight Net#1 Conrad Chen 86/73 (I'll get it next year)
First flight Net#2 Jennifer Kao 87/74 (Ms. Consistent)
First flight Net#3 Eric Ouyang 91/75 (I need a new putter)

Second flight Net#1 Frank Hsu 91/70 (Old Ginger)
Second flight Net#2 Hao-ping Wen 98/70 (I need to play more)
Second flight Net#3 Howard King 93/73 (my kid ranks US top 10)

Near Pin 2nd hole Jennifer 2'5" (how did I lost the match?)
Near Pin 6th hole Eric Chou 1'6" (Mine is the shortest ;-)
Near pin 13th hole Yu Chang 4'4" (180 yard uphill)
Near pin 16th hole Jennifer 7'10" (Jennifer again?)

Long Drive Men Lucas Tsai (my ball is closer to the middle)
Long Drive Ladies Carol Lin (Jennifer did not win them all)

It was a fun and fulfilling year for me. We had many new
activities like swing achiever parties, many fun formats and
lots of matches. I would like to take this chance to thank
the staff for their dedicated contributions.
